I recently sold my Lian Li Resident Evil themed PC to a follower from TikTok who was obsessed with the games (made me beyond... I recently sold my Lian Li Resident Evil themed PC to a follower from TikTok who was obsessed with the games (made me beyond happy to see how thrilled he was to have it so I couldn’t say no). I wanted to do something completely different than what I’m used to doing, and an open boxed deal on a Phanteks Evo X2 case from Microcenter started me down the path. I decided I would put together my first all white build, and man am I happy I did it. I managed to get all my parts in store, including the 5080 Aorus Master Ice GPU (absolute score). I put everything together and to take it a step further, I decided to give a vertical mounted a go. I went with the Phanteks premium gen5 kit, and boy was it a great move. Having the GPU mounted vertically, you are able to see the breathtaking halo lights on the GPU’s fans (literally made my wife gasp as her jaw hit the floor when they spun on for the first time). I couldn’t be happier with the build, but some customization was needed to fit that thick and chunky Aorus master ice in there (absolutely worth it).$6,292.93 -

As of today I am planning on using my old GPU until I upgrade my monitors, as right now my RTX2070 has no problem keeping up with my 1920 x 1080, 75hz monitors. eventually I will most likely upgrade to an RTX5070 and some faster monitors. I yoinked a windows 10 key from an old laptop, which was a lot easier than I expected. My brother and I have been working with old pc components for years, so I finally built one from the ground up, and I have got to say it was super exiting to see all the lights turn on and fans spin up for the first time on something I built piece by piece.$1,875.90 -

I wanted to build a capable desktop for my wife to run local LLMs for her writing and academic work without spending a fortune. After Building Clean Ice (see Build of the Week 4/10/2026 - 4/16/2026), I started with my old CyberPower prebuilt. I retained the original 32GB of DDR4 memory, 512GB NVMe SSD, and 2TB Western Digital hard drive, then focused the budget on the components that deliver the biggest real-world performance gains: a Ryzen 7 5800XT, Radeon RX 7800 XT, improved cooling, a quality motherboard, and a reliable power supply. For anyone not ready to spend hundreds more on DDR5 memory and a new Gen4 or Gen5 SSD just to move to AM5, this is still an outstanding value. As the saying goes, it's not a comeback when you're not dead yet—and AM4 is still very much alive... and affordable. My first build was a Ryzen 7 7700X boring white mid-tower with horiffically messy cable management and a temporary LEGO brick GPU support. However, for my second build, I wanted to not only increase the specs/performance, but also try packing a full workstation and gaming powerhouse into a SSF case. The CPU is a Ryzen 9 9900X, a 12 core beast that I'm air cooling with a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE (which works absurdly well and runs 10x quieter than my old Cooler Master Hyper 212). The 9900X is very good for modern gaming (I don't play esports or at 1080p so I don't need an X3D chip) and it blows through BOINC cancer research stuff and game dev. The GPU's a basic PNY RTX 5070 Ti, which I've overclocked to RTX 5080 levels. 110% power limit, + 240 mhz GPU clock, +2440 mhz GDRR7 VRAM clock, over 1 TB/s memory bandwidth. Beats average RTX 5080 in certain benchmarks and even beats some stock 4090s. I've paired the CPU and GPU with 2x 24 GB sticks of DRR5-6400 RAM, running at 1:1 ratio that's somehow stable on my Zen 5 memory controller lol, the only reason I was able to buy the RAM was because I sold my old 32 GB kit to offset some of the insane cost. OS SSD is a WD Black SN770 2 TB Gen 4, with a Kingston 1 TB Gen 4 for games. As my first ever build was a giant fish-tank style tacky unicorn vomit RGB mess, I wanted to make this build as clean and low-profile as possible, so I spent 3 hours on the cable managment. The SFF Lian Li and DAN a3 case is phenomenal. I'm using a top-front mounted PSU (Corsair 1000W Gold e series) with a cut-off heat/airflow loop, 2 Artic fans under the GPU, and 2 for exhaust, which keeps this thing insanely cool and shockingly quiet. The case's front wood panel also looks awesome. For the motherboard I went with the GIGABYTE Aorus B650M Elite AX ICE micro-ATX board, which I thought was going to be a downgrade coming from an ROG Strix X870-A, but the only thing I lost was support for Gen 5 graphics which my 5070 Ti doesn't saturate anyways, and room for more SSDs than any sane man should have. Board has awesome VRMs too for the 9900X. This computer is awesome and I'm so glad I was able to get great deals on the motherboard ($60 off) and the RAM (insanely cheap CONSIDERING RAMpocalypse) at my local Micro Center. I shouldn't to upgrade for my use case for at least 2 years, I might try to get a 5070 Ti SUPER GPU if those ever come out for my VRAM for local AI, but whenever the Ryzen 11000 series comes out I'll likely upgrade to whatever's the best AM5 CPU then and try to see if I can survive skipping AM6 altogether (who knows maybe that will end up being dumb).$2,388.95 -

This hobby is addicting! Initially when building I had picked out a Ryzen 7800xt, however they sold out before the parts were picked and I ended up settling for a 4060 instead, before upgrading a few months later to a 7900xt and then using the 4060 in a friend's budget build while cards were out of stock.$1,946.88 -

Best gaming cpu 9850x3d with 5080 plays most games at 4K with 100-120 fps using DLSS Quality and 2x frame gen (if necessary). The case is awesome and allows you to either have fans mounted at top with mesh top, or switch to glass top for max vision mode and mount fans on the side. I changed from the top radiator fan setup to a push/pull on the side, which keeps the CPU cooler and no noticeable increase to GPU temps with bottom intake fans feeding cool air. Lian-Li case & fans are super customizable. It lets you set the vibe any way you want. I'm playing with a 47" LG OLED TV with G-Sync (VRR) up to 144hz, this build goes perfect with this TV.$2,953.85 -

One item on my bucket list was something I'd always wanted to do: spec and build my own PC. For the past 30 years or so, I've been a loyal Dell customer, purchasing highly configured pre-built systems every two to three years. The Dell this PC replaced actually served me well for six years. As a retirement gift to myself, I decided it was finally time to build what I hope will be my "last and forever" PC. My original plan was to spec out all the components and have an online builder assemble and ship it to me. Along the way, I spent countless hours researching components, watching YouTube videos, talking with knowledgeable people, and even using AI to help me understand the latest hardware and make informed choices. Then I discovered Micro Center's Build & Learn program. Instead of simply ordering a custom PC, I had the opportunity to build it myself under the guidance and watchful eye of one of Micro Center's technicians. It transformed what would have been just another purchase into an unforgettable experience. Walking out with a computer that I personally assembled was incredibly satisfying. It wasn't just about owning a powerful PC—it was about learning something new, accomplishing a lifelong goal, and proving to myself that you're never too old to tackle a new challenge. At 65 years old, I can honestly say this was one of the most rewarding projects I've ever completed. Thank you to everyone at Micro Center especially Brendan, who helped turn a bucket-list dream into a reality. The icing on the cake is the benchmarks put Nitro in the 99th percentile.$8,153.87 -

Last December I bought a PS5 and started to play games again mainly Arc Raiders and started going down the YouTube rabbit holes of all things gaming and then pc and pc building. So I decided that it was finally time to build a pc! I was so excited! I did all the research on building, components and how I wanted it to look and perform. To be honest I wanted it to look cool! This was mainly to see if I could do it . The hunting around picking out the parts was a blast! Early in the process I knew I wanted it to be as clean as possible and wanted a back connection motherboard and so it started! This was one of the most fun and memorable things I have ever done! I think it came out just the way I pictured it! The performance is not the highest end build but I would say a mid to upper level build with a focus on esthetics probably not the most original but something I like. WFH during the day. Gamer into the late hours at night. This build was meant to be my clean, high-performance daily setup,... WFH during the day. Gamer into the late hours at night. This build was meant to be my clean, high-performance daily setup, but it turned into something way more personal. While I was building it, my 4-year-old kept wanting to help. He would bring over his toys, his toy tools, and whatever he thought belonged in the PC. One thing led to another, and his astronaut and Space Shuttle Atlantis became part of the build itself. The final theme became Cyberpunk meets Space with neon blues, purples, and a little bit of NASA-inspired imagination. The timing made it even cooler because all of this was happening during the Artemis space mission buzz, so it sparked even more curiosity in him. At the end of the day, this is still my WFH/gaming setup, but now it has a story behind it. It is one of those build experiences I know I will never forget. My son got to be part of it, the theme came together naturally, and its more than just hardware in a case. It became ours. TY MC for the parts & help!$3,604.92
